Schools Tennis
Schools Tennis
At first sight tennis may not look like an obvious choice for delivery through the school PE programme. Questions often arise such as; how do you play tennis with no nets? Is it not too dangerous with the hard tennis balls? What about different ages and abilities?
Tennis Ireland has developed The Schools Tennis Initiative which offers teachers and schools resources to enable them to deliver tennis in PE classes with no nets and using modified equipment.
Schools can access the free lesson plans by signing up here:
Schools Tennis Ireland - Teacher Zone
On the lesson plans you will see that each game has a link to a video where you can see the game in action. The lesson plans are complimented by assessment cards that can be given to pupils at the start of the course, and which allow pupils to track their progress. Certificates are available for download and are great for presentation days.
The Schools Tennis initiative is for both primary and secondary schools.
If your school would like to get involved in the Schools Tennis programmes, or explore other opportunities as part of the initiative, please get in touch with the Fingal Tennis Regional Development Officer - Tara Congdon.
