MarathonKids



Programme info:


In 2015 Fingal County Council and Dublin Marathon worked in partnership to introduce MarathonKids on a pilot basis to primary schools. Such was the success of the programme the partnership was extended to Dublin City Council in 2016 and South Dublin County Council in 2017.


The aim of the programme is to inspire children to run and embrace healthy lifestyles. Participating schools complete an 8 week training programme in their school to accumulate 25.2 miles of running and then complete their final mile at a specially organised event.


Each teacher and student receives a 28 page workbook containing a child friendly daily training plan, information on the Dublin Marathon, running tips and the importance of nutrition and hydration. In addition, there are sections covering the benefits of exercise under the headings of; physical, mental. social, educational and community.


The programme hopes to encourage all children to embrace healthy pastimes and healthy active lifestyles.

Primary schools - 5th & 6th Class.
