Primary School Programme
Sports Conditioning
Sports Conditioning (Sports Con) is a specialised training module for children of all abilities. The aim of the programme is to improve children's fundamental movement skills.
Research has shown that children who acquire good movement skills have greater ability and confidence to participate in sport and physical activity.
Programme Breakdown:
The programme is delivered for 10 weeks and is delivered by a qualified Sports Con coach.
There will be 2 assessment days, one before and one after the programme to determine the skills of the children. Balance, throwing, catching, kicking, striking and skipping will all be assessed.
Each class will get 8 weeks of contact time at 30 minutes per class. The PE sessions are run by a Fingal Sports Con coach, with help from the class teacher. This will help the teacher improve children's movement skills after the programme has finished.
The school will also receive two 1 hour teacher training workshops which can be organised as part of Croke Park hours. Teachers from all streams are encouraged to attend these workshops. On completion of the workshops, the school will get access to the Healthy Fingal Learning Portal, an online resource that includes videos and tutorials of all the exercises, activities and games from the Sports Con programme.
The school also has the option of adding 'The Sporting Facts' module to the programme, which is a classroom based SPHE programme. More information on 'The Sporting Facts' can be founding by clicking here.
